Hello and welcome to our weekly travel media and technology bulletin featuring the latest developments on media and technology around the world, published every Tuesday at 06:00 GMT.

The Monocle Media Summit

The editorial team of Monocle Magazine and various movers & shakers from the world of media gathered in London last week for the 2nd annual Moncole Media Summit to take the temperature of broadcast and print media, as well as branding and advertising. Guests included Hala Gorani of CNN and Francine Lacqua of Bloomberg. You can hear highlights from Moncole 24’s weekly print media show “The Stack”.

Inside the World of the Frequent Flyer

Yesterday, Monday 5 March 2018, BBC Radio 4 stepped Inside the World of the Frequent Flyer.

The programme looked at the lengths passengers (in truth a very small minority) will go to to obtain and retain frequent flyer status and for some, the sense of loss or relief that can come with losing a coveted frequent flyer card.

There certainly were some kernels of truth in the programme: The fact that frequent flyer programmes can distort consumer behaviour and members are at the mercy of the whim of airlines changing the terms of their programmes.

What was amusing was that given the liberal use of The Flower Duet and endless references to tier points, Gold Guest List and Lifetime Gold status is that it was clearly all about the BA Executive Club. Yet with the BBC being the BBC, neither BA nor the Executive Club were mentioned by name once.

Also of note this week:

The BBC’s “Unpopped” podcast looks at Twin Peaks.

The BBC’s “The Boring Talks” podcast has a browse of The Argos Catalogue. (Yes, it’s still going.)

Piers Taylor and Caroline Quentin head to Portugal to discover The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes

New on Netflix: Flint Town. A hard-hitting fly-on-the-wall look a policing in the city of Flint, Michigan.
