Delta and Virgin Atlantic have announced the start of codeshares on each other’s transatlantic flights between the UK and North America for bookings made from 29 June 2013 for travel from 3 July 2013.
Here is information for customers published by Virgin Atlantic and Delta.
What this means is:
– Customers of Virgin Atlantic will be able to book on Delta’s flights from London to Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Detroit as well as Delta operated services to Boston and New York.
– Customers of Virgin Atlantic will also be able to book domestic connections on Delta flights in North America from New York, Boston and Los Angeles.
– Customers of Delta will be able to book Virgin Atlantic flights to London from New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, San Francisco and Vancouver.
– Customers of Delta will also be able to book connections on Virgin Atlantic “Little Red” flights from London Heathrow to Manchester, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
It is worth adding:
– From what has been released so far, the joint-venture excludes Virgin Atlantic flights from London Gatwick to the Caribbean.
– Delta is not currently offering connections for Virgin Atlantic passengers from its hub in Atlanta. This may be for commercial reasons but is still somewhat surprising given the scale of the hub.
– Connections on Delta are, with the exception of Jamaica, currently limited to North American destinations.
As Delta and Virgin Atlantic do not yet have anti-trust immunity for their joint-venture (this is currently being reviewed by the US Department of Transportation), Delta and Virgin cannot currently co-operate in areas such as scheduling and pricing.
