It was only a little over a month ago that Delta Air Lines announced its plans to launch a direct route from London Heathrow to Chicago O’Hare from Sunday 26 October 2014.

This was in effect a continuation of Virgin Atlantic’s, now Delta’s joint-venture partner across the atlantic, summer seasonal service to Chicago into the winter season.

However, the route has now been suspended.

No specific reason has been given for the suspension and it is quite surprising for a new route to be suspended so shortly after its announcement. However, it is fair to say that a single daily flight in the winter season was always going to struggle against the multiple daily frequencies of United Airlines and American Airlines/British Airways.
