In recent years, new and growing aviation hubs west of the UK have offered new one-stop connections to new destinations in the United States. Aer Lingus launched Hartford from Dublin last year. And today, the Icelandic based airline Wow air has announced four new routes to the US from its hub rapidly growing in Reykjavík.
These are Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and St Louis. All, apart from Detroit, are (for now, at least) not served by direct flights from London.
Flights to Detroit Metropolitan airport launch on Thursday 26 April 2018 (currently also served by Delta from London Heathrow). Flights to Cleveland Hopkins International airport launch on Friday 4 May 2018. Flights to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International airport launch on Thursday 10 May 2018. Flights to St Louis Lambert International airport launch on Thursday 17 May 2018.
Wow air’s local rival Icelandair also announced flights to Cleveland this week.
All of Wowair’s new routes will operate four times weekly. Flights will be operated (at least in the main) with Airbus A321 aircraft.
Wow air currently flies from London Gatwick to Reykjavik twice daily. It will also launch daily flights from London Stansted to Reykjavik from Wednesday 25 April 2018.
Wow air also flies from Reykjavik to Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Washington D.C, Montreal, and Toronto.
