Streaming Media

BBC Radio 1, which was famous for its comedy shows in the 1990s (The Mary Whitehouse Experience, Armando Iannucci, Chris Morris), is to make a return to the genre. The station will launch a new series of comedy podcasts. The first series will be available for download from Monday 5 February. (BBC)

Sky has also announced that its online streaming service Now TV will offer HD streams of TV channels from later this year. On a related note, Virgin Media is offering all existing customers the opportunity to upgrade to its latest 4K ready V6 set-top box. (Virgin Media)

Smartphone and Tablet Apps

The BBC has updated its BBC News and Weather apps to improve navigation and offer new weather services as it moves its forecasts from The Met Office to MeteoGroup. (BBC)

Software

Apple has released details of its forthcoming smartphone software iOS 11.3. Apple promises new ways to experience augmented reality on iPhone and iPad, new Animoji on iPhone X and the ability to view health records in the Health app. (Apple)

Apple has also recently released updates to its existing iOS 11 software that all users are encouraged to download for the latest security updates.
