BA has long offered the facility to reduce the cost of flights with a part-payment of Avios, the currency of its Executive Club frequent flyer programme.
This is rarely good value for money. However, BA has today, Friday 19 October 2018, launched a new promotion whereby you can reduce the cost of any long-haul economy return flight by £100 for 5,000 Avios.
The promotion applies to any long-haul economy return flight booked from the UK up to 23:59 BST on Monday 22 October 2018, for travel up to Wednesday 9 October 2019.
The offer is available to all UK registered members of the Executive Club. It only applies to flights booked through ba.com or a BA call centre.
Up to 9 passengers per booking can benefit from the £100 discount for 5,000 Avios each. The discount must be selected at the time of booking.
This is a good value promotion for a number of reasons:
– There are lead-in economy return fares of less than £300 to many North American destinations such as Boston, Chicago and New York. This means you could secure an long-haul economy return flight for around £200. This is ideal for a short and impromptu long-haul trip where you’re not concerned with checking in a bag.
– A family of four could benefit from a £400 discount to their holiday for 20,000 Avios. This does help take the edge off peak fares for those bound by school holidays.
– It’s probably one the best ways available to make use of a relatively small balance of Avios.
How To Book
There are no pre-registration requirements.
Simply visit ba.com and log in to your Executive Club account.
You can use the Low Fare Finder to identify the best value return fares.
Select your return flights as normal. If you are booking transatlantic flights, be careful not to select those operated by American Airlines.
When you have selected your flights, a box with the legend “£100 off with 5,000 Avios” should appear.
You should then see the £100 discount applied before you complete the payment. And that’s it.
The full terms and conditions are available at ba.com
It’s worth adding that this appears to be a new promotional series known as “Gift Box”. If this offer does not appeal it’s worth keeping a close eye on forthcoming short notice promotions.
