Virgin Atlantic has launched a new route from London Heathrow to Tampa, Florida.

Virgin will fly to Tampa from Thursday 3 November 2022. Flights will initially operate four times weekly and increase to daily from Monday 28 November 2022. The service will operate year round.

The city of Tampa on the Gulf Coast of Florida is Virgin Atlantic’s third destination in the state, after Miami and Orlando. Passengers visiting Florida can of course mix arrival and departure airports.

The city is a good option for those looking for something more sedate than Miami. It is known for its Riverwalk and many museums and galleries including the Tampa Museum of Art, The Florida Museum Of Photographic Arts and The Tampa Bay History Center.

The Gulf Coast cities of Clearwater, St Petersburg and Sarasota are also nearby.

Tampa airport has long sought a non-stop link to London Heathrow. Tampa is currently served by British Airways from Gatwick. Virgin Atlantic’s route launch may prompt BA to move Tampa to Heathrow.

Tampa is Virgin’s second transatlantic route launch this year after Austin. This was expected as seasonal reports for Heathrow indicated Virgin had applied for slots for this route.

Flights go on sale on Wednesday 13 July.
