With summer now over many are planning their annual ski trip or a Christmas trip to Lapland or mainland Europe’s markets, so here’s a quick run through of direct winter seasonal routes from London which operate in addition to scheduled year round services.

Austria
BA’s formerly winter seasonal service from London Heathrow to Innsbruck now operates year round, including twice daily flights on Saturdays from Saturday 3 November 2018 up to Saturday 30 March 2019. Innsbruck also returns at Gatwick five times weekly from Saturday 8 December 2018 to Sunday 14 April 2019.
easyJet operates a twice weekly seasonal service from London Gatwick to Klagenfurt on Wednesday and Saturday from Saturday 15 December 2018 to Saturday 23 March 2019.
BA is operating a four times weekly winter seasonal flight from London Heathrow to Salzburg on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Sunday 16 December 2018 to Saturday 30 March 2019. This will complement year round services from Gatwick.
easyJet also operates a four times weekly service from London Gatwick to Salzburg from Friday 7 December 2018 to Saturday 23 March 2019.
BA’s seasonal service from London Gatwick to Vienna returns from Sunday 28 October 2018 to Friday 29 March 2019.
Finland
Finnair is operating a twice weekly winter seasonal service from London Gatwick to Ivalo on Thursday and Sunday from Thursday 13 December 2018 until Thursday 28 March 2019.
Finnair is also operating a weekly seasonal service from London Gatwick to Kittilä on Tuesday and Sunday from Sunday 16 December 2018 until Tuesday 26 March 2019.
Both of these routes can be booked as codeshares through BA. easyJet’s seasonal service to Kittilä appears not to be returning this year.
easyJet is however flying to Rovaniemi on Wednesday and Sunday from Wednesday 30 October 2018 to Sunday 24 March 2019. Norwegian also flies to Rovaniemi on Monday, Wednesday, Friday from Monday 29 October 2018 to Friday 29 March 2019.
France
BA is operating a twice weekly winter seasonal flight from London City to Chambery on Saturday and Sunday from Saturday 15 December 2018 up to Saturday 20 April 2019. There are also four additional weekly flights between Monday 17 December 2018 and Monday 24 December 2018.
BA is operating a twice weekly winter seasonal flight from London Stansted to Chambery on Saturday and Sunday from Saturday 15 December 2018 up to Sunday 14 April 2019.
BA will fly to Grenoble Alpes Isère airport three times a week from London Gatwick from Saturday 15 December 2018 to Sunday 31 March 2019 and from London Heathrow on Saturdays from Saturday 22 December 2018 to Saturday 30 March 2019.
easyJet will also fly to Grenoble Alpes Isère airport five times weekly from Friday 14 December 2018 to Sunday 24 March 2019.
Germany
BA is launching a new four times weekly service to Cologne on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from Friday 16 November 2018 to Friday 29 March 2019.
BA’s service to Friedrichshafen returns on Saturday from Saturday 22 December 2018 until Saturday 13 April 2019.
easyJet also operates a seasonal service to Friedrichshafen on Saturday and Sunday from Saturday 15 December 2018 to Sunday 24 March 2019.
BA’s service to Nuremberg returns four times weekly from Monday 12 November 2018 to Sunday 6 January 2019.
Iceland
BA’s winter seasonal route from London City to Reykjavik returns, operating twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays from Saturday 28 October 2018 to Thursday 28 March 2019.
Italy
BA’s winter seasonal service from London Heathrow to Turin will not return this year. Passengers will be re-accommodated on BA’s year-round flights from Gatwick which operate up to 17 times weekly.
easyJet will operate a seasonal service from London Gatwick to Turin up to six times weekly from Friday 7 December 2018 to Sunday 24 March 2019.
Norway
Norwegian flies to Tromsø four times weekly until Saturday 30 March 2019.
Switzerland
BA’s seasonal service from London Gatwick to Geneva returns from Saturday 8 December 2018 until Sunday 21 April 2019 with up to 23 flights a week.
Swiss is once again operating a weekly winter seasonal flight from London Heathrow to Sion on Saturdays from Saturday 9 February 2019 to Saturday 3 March 2019.
Airline Policies On Carriage Of Ski Equipment
Airline policies on the carriage of ski equipment vary by one or more of airline and the type of fare purchased. In addition, there are weight and size restrictions on all individual items of checked luggage.
BA Basic, easyJet, Finnair Economy Light, and Swiss Economy Light fares do not include a checked luggage allowance. Any checked in ski equipment has to be paid for separately.
Please see respective guidance from BA, easyJet, Swiss on the carriage of sports equipment. These do vary by airline and are strictly enforced. No-one wants to get a ski trip off to the wrong start, so it is strongly advised to review this guidance carefully.
