British Airways has today confirmed it will codeshare on a small number of Qatar Airways flights from its hub in Doha.
These are flights to Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan, Dhaka, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Entebbe in Uganda, and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
With the exception of Entebbe, these are destinations not currently served by BA.
Indeed, Dar es Salaam was suspended last year. Islamabad, the only destination served by BA in Pakistan at the time, was suspended in 2008. Dhaka was suspended in March 2009. Addis Ababa was suspended in June 2012.
These codeshares can be booked whether flying to Doha on a flight operated by BA or Qatar Airways.
It’s a reasonable assumption that the codeshare relationship between the two airlines will grow over time. In particular, it will be interesting to see if BA offers a codeshare to Australia, to complement its codeshares with Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong.
Codeshare flights can be booked now for travel from 8 April on ba.com.
