As expected following the launch of a transatlantic joint venture between Delta Airlines and Virgin Atlantic, Delta has today announced that it is to operate a direct flight from London Heathrow to Seattle from 30 March 2014.
This breaks the monopoly of British Airways on the route. It is not the first time an airline has sought to break this monopoly. Northwest Airlines (now subsumed into Delta) launched the route shortly after Heathrow, but unfavourable timings imposed by Heathrow slot constraints meant this route proved to be short-lived. Delta’s prospects are significantly enhanced by good timings and the support of a codeshare with Virgin Atlantic.
Here are the timings and more information is available from Delta.
