Following the grant of anti-trust immunity by the US Department of Transportation, Virgin Atlantic and Delta have today confirmed they will co-ordinate their schedules to operate a nine times daily shuttle service on the London Heathrow – New York (Newark & JFK) route from 30 March 2014.
Seven of the daily flights are to New York JFK, with the remaining two daily flights operating to Newark.
This is strong competition for American Airlines and British Airways which together offer up to sixteen daily flights between London and New York. This also leaves United Airlines some distance behind with just five daily flights from London Heathrow to Newark.
Here is the London – New York JFK schedule which will be on sale from 5 October 2013. The evening schedule out of New York JFK follows a neat half-hour/hourly departure pattern. The London Heathrow – New York JFK is not quite so orderly, a reflection of the fact that Delta and Virgin’s combined slot portfolio gives them relatively little room for manoeuvre.
