Iberia returns to Havana, Cuba and launches new route to Medellin and Cali in Colombia

Some positive signs of a real turnaround and expansion at Iberia.

The airline is to reinstate flights between Madrid and Havana in Cuba from 1 June 2015. Flights will operate five weekly, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays.

Iberia will also add Cali and Medellin in Colombia to its route network from 3 July 2015.

This will operate as a “triangular” route, whereby Iberia will fly Madrid-Medellin, Medellin-Cali, and Cali-Madrid. Flights operate three times weekly on Wednsday, Friday and Saturday.

Norwegian to fly from London Gatwick to the Greek Island of Kefalonia from 18 April 2015

Norwegian Air Shuttle has announced a new short-haul route from London Gatwick. It will fly to the Greek island of Kefalonia from Saturday 18 April 2015.

The new route operates once a week, on Saturdays.

British Airways goes daily on London Heathrow – Mexico City from 1 May 2015

After gradually increasing its weekly frequency on London Heathrow to Mexico City over the past few years, BA’s current five weekly Mexico service will become a daily service from 1 May 2015.

The timetable for the new daily service is:

Flight BA0243 Depart London Heathrow 14:10 Arrive Mexico City 19:30
Flight BA0242 Depart Mexico City 21:30 Arrive London Heathrow 13:55

BA currently flies to Mexico City five times a week (excluding Tuesdays and Saturdays). This increases to a six weekly service from April and a daily service from May.

Which British Airways routes operate from London Heathrow with a first class cabin?

Here’s a full list of long-haul BA routes from London Heathrow that operate with a first class cabin.

We receive a lot of search enquiries regarding which British Airways routes operate with or without a first class cabin.

Whilst BA’s first class product is far from a market leading product in the air or on the ground, the network it covers is very broad.

It’s also a popular choice for members of the BA Executive Club to use their Avios and holders of BA branded American Express credit cards to use 2-4-1 flight vouchers. Many Silver & Gold members of the Executive Club can also find themselves upgraded from Club World on oversold flights.

The general trend in recent years has been for first class to be removed from routes. However, it has in recent times been restored to routes such as Rio de Janeiro, Denver and San Diego.

Iberia launches twice daily flights from London Gatwick to Madrid from Sunday 29 March 2015

Ever since the marriage of BA and Iberia a little under four years ago, we have often wondered why Iberia has not taken advantage of BA’s distribution and marketing to operate more flights from UK airports to its Madrid hub.

There have been short-lived flights from Glasgow to Madrid, but little more. Now, as part of a significant expansion of Iberia’s short-haul network (which includes the launch of flights from Manchester and Edinburgh to Madrid), Iberia is to launch twice daily flights from London Gatwick to Madrid from Sunday 29 March 2015.

British Airways launches new summer seasonal routes from London City airport to Mykonos and Santorini from June 2015

British Airways has launched two new routes from London City airport to the Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini from June 2015.

Flights to Mykonos operate four times weekly from Monday 29 June to Sunday 6 September.

Flights to Santorini operate twice weekly from Tuesday 30 June to Friday 4 September.

BA also flies to Mykonos and Santorini on a summer seasonal basis from London Heathrow, enabling passengers to “mix and match” departure and arrival airports.

Delta Airlines adds to Heathrow presence with launch of London Heathrow – Philadelphia route

Delta Airlines continues to expand its presence at London Heathrow with the launch of a new route from the airport to Philadelphia on 8 April 2015, the airline confirmed today.

The flight will operate from Terminal 4, and be operated by a Boeing 757 aircraft in a two class (economy and business class) configuration.

The route will also be offered as a codeshare with its transatlantic joint-venture partner Virgin Atlantic.

British Airways launches London Heathrow – Bilbao route; Vueling moves Bilbao flights to London Gatwick

British Airways has today announced it is to launch a twice daily service from London Heathrow to Bilbao in the Basque region of Northern Spain.

Bilbao is currently served from London Heathrow by BA’s IAG sibling Vueling. It will move its four weekly flights to London Gatwick.

Flights launch on 29 March 2015.

BA’s flights will initially operate from Heathrow Terminal 1 and will move to Terminal 3 on 30 June 2015.

British Airways to relaunch London Gatwick – Sharm El Sheikh (again!) from September 2015

BA will return to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt from mid September 2015.

The airline will initially fly to Sharm El Sheikh initially twice a week on Monday and Thursdays, then increasing to thrice weekly.

This is by no means the first time BA will fly to Sharm El Sheikh. BA’s franchise partner, GB Airways, used to fly their in BA colours until it was acquired by easyJet.

BA then operated a long-haul Boeing 777 a few years ago, but a combination of brutal timings and the Arab Spring led to the route being cancelled in 2011.

BA will fly to Sharm El Sheikh using an Airbus A320, offering EuroTraveller economy and Club Europe business class, so no in flight entertainment or flat beds in business class.

The good news is that the timings are quite agreeable for in the inbound and outbound flights. This is a typical timetable. The exact timings may vary throughout the season.

British Airways to fly its Boeing 747 to Denver from Sunday 29 March 2015

It’s not often you hear of first class being added to BA’s London Heathrow routes. Indeed, it wasn’t long ago BA announced it was withdrawing first class from Cape Tow, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Vancouver from later this month.

However, BA will be upgrading its single daily flight to Denver, Colorado (BA 219 and BA 218 return) from a three class Boeing 777 to a four class Boeing 747 from Sunday 29 March 2015.

This means that BA’s first class cabin will be available on this route and travellers in Club World business class will have the option of the popular 20 seat cabin in the “bubble” of the 747.

We’re not quite sure what has prompted this decision, other than that BA is the sole operator of the London Heathrow – Denver route and transatlantic traffic is buoyant at the moment.
