As has been widely reported around the world, President Trump has issued an Executive Order banning nationals of Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and Libya from entering the United States of America.
The Executive Order has effect for a period of 90 days, until 27 April 2017.
In light of this, British Airways has issued guidance to affected passengers.
If you are national of one of the seven countries included in the Executive Order and are due to travel on any British Airways operated flight to the USA up to 27 April 2017 then you can:
- Obtain a full refund; or
- Reroute from your original departure point to an alternative destination on BA’s network (with any difference in fare paid)
This policy only applies to British Airways operated flights to the USA (which are all currently operated from London). It does not apply to flights operated by its transatlantic codeshare partners Aer Lingus, American Airlines, Iberia and Finnair. It also only applies to tickets issued by British Airways (these are ticket numbers which begin with the number 125).
Travellers who are nationals of the above seven countries may still travel to the USA if:
- They hold a valid U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident Card (LPR)
- They have a passport issued by a country that is eligible entry a long with a valid visa or ESTA
- They are travelling on NATO / diplomatic visas. Specifically A1 & A2 (Government Officials and immediate family); C2 (Travel to the United Nations); G1 & G2 (Representative & employees of international organisations; G3 & G4 (Representatives to and employees of international organisations) and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation visas.
Of the seven countries included in the Executive Order, British Airways only flies direct to Tehran in Iran (this route relaunched on 1 September 2016). In recent years, it has previously flown to Tripoli in Libya, Damascus in Syria and Khartoum in Sudan. However, these routes have since been suspended.
If you are affected by the Executive Order then you should contact either BA or your travel agent.
