This is one, perhaps, for readers more interested in the hardware of aviation than the “softer” aspects of flying.

Tonight on Channel 4 (UK), “Grand Designs” presenter Kevin McCloud will challenge a team of three engineers to recycle the entire contents of an Airbus A320 aircraft into reusable consumer products in Kevin McCloud’s “Supersized Salvage” (also repeated just after midnight on 4 Seven).

Richard Wilson’s “Slipstream” sculpture is unveiled at London Heathrow Terminal 2 “The Queen’s Terminal”

Richard Wilson’s new artwork ‘Slipstream’ was unveiled at Terminal 2 of Heathrow airport on today. The aluminum sculpture is suspended 18 metres above the ground, weighs 77 tonnes and is 78 metres in length. It is inspired by the flight path of a stunt plane. The sculpture was commissioned by the consultancy FutureCity.

Terminal 2 opens on Wednesday 4 June and will be officially opened by The Queen on Monday 23 June.

FlyBe to launch new routes from London City to Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter and Inverness

FlyBe has this morning, 23 April 2014, announced it will set up a base at London City airport, launching new routes to Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter and Inverness from Monday 27 October 2014.

British Airways to codeshare with Qatar Airways on selected flights from Doha to Bangladesh, Pakistan and Africa

British Airways has today confirmed it will codeshare on a small number of Qatar Airways flights from its hub in Doha.

These are flights to Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan, Dhaka, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Entebbe in Uganda, and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.

American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Airlines & Virgin Atlantic gear up for battle on London Heathrow – New York route

If there’s one long-haul route from London that is more coveted than any other, it has to be the London Heathrow to New York route.

In 2013, some 4.2 million passengers flew in both directions between London and New York. This is more than Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami combined.

Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 – A special programme from Monocle 24’s “The Foreign Desk”

In the three weeks that have passed since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 much of the media coverage has been of highly variable quality.

With so few facts but insatiable demand from audiences (CNN in North America has doubled its audience in its main demographic by devoting near blanket coverage to the story), news organisations have had to rely heavily on speculation and guess work.

British Airways now trialling in-flight WiFi on a single Boeing 747 aircraft

We have to admit for having known for some time that British Airways has been trialling in-flight WiFi on a single Boeing 747 aircraft.

However, as there has been no way of knowing whether this aircraft will be available on a specific flight (we understand this was intentional) the trial has not been particularly newsworthy.

Based on this update issued by BA it seems the trial is now being targeted to a single specific flight. That flight is BA183 from London Heathrow to New York JFK. However, we cannot currently verify that this is case.

British Airways offers complimentary Executive Club Silver cards to Blue & Bronze members

We’re not quite sure what has prompted this, but British Airways has today e-mailed large numbers of members of its Executive Club who hold blue or bronze cards offering a complimentary Silver card (which affords privileges such as access to business class check-in desks and lounges) if they book a business class return from London to New York (subject to certain booking restrictions) in the next 90 days.
